English 9 stuff
9honors reflections.
1
Near the beginning of the year my signpost notes were mainly just summarizations, such as in angels in the snow, "this character did that because that" and they really weren't all that insightful. However throughout the trimester my summarizations became more complex and deep, looking in between the lines to see the deeper meaning, reading the ideas or motivations behind the characters, such as loss, embarrasment, or jealousy. This improvement really helped me because as the years will go on, my ability to read in between the lines will help me analyze not only books but also movies and people.
2
At the beginning of this trimester my writing was very unpolished, for example, the memoir that I wrote at the beginning of the trimester had many grammar, spelling, and capitalization errors. As the trimester went on I began to fix some of these problems and at the end of this trimester, such as in the TKAM script. In the end of trimester script I fixed most of this with better grammar (beyond intentional errors for accents) and capitalization. This overall helped me in my writing skills because usually you want to be able to use correct grammar and capitalization when writing really anything.
3
My reading through this trimester started out very slowly and for the first couple of weeks, even though I love to read, I didn't really read much at all. For example at the first book check of if we were reading outside of class I said no. but as the tri had gone on, I began reading more reading the leviathan series and red rising series along with some smaller one off books like star-bounders, and Nova. I also due to the signposts began seeing deeper into the books noticing themes and ideas inside of them. This overall is a great skill to have because reading not only helps preserve memories but also just is a good thing to do regularly.
4
my participation throughout the trimester has been steady and frequent however near the beginning I was quieter and when I was in small group discussions I tended to dominate them. as the tri went on I began to be more participant and less dominating. honestly this is just an amazing skill to have because everyone will be in thousands of discussions in their lifetimes and the better you get at not dominating them and definitely participating in them, the better.

1. My understanding of what I have read over this trimester has improved steadily. this is evident in my steady changes throughout the poetry unit. When we first began it, I could not find much meaning in the poems as seen in the blackout poem where I don't think I really knew what I was doing

1. At the start of the trimester I had very casual writing for my research papers as seen in my implicit bias synthesis paper. This lead tpo the paper looking much less professional and therefore, less convincing. this however improved over the trimester as I used more professional tone, replacing 'me' and 'you' with 'it' and 'the research'. This is seen most evidently in my later synthesis paragraph about the Iraq crisis. In that, the tone and language more reflected the goal of the paper.

2. At the beginning of the trimester my writing had a good amount of runoff and lack of academic tone. for instance I used the phrase "The other part of the idea is that" this lead to an amount of casual tone. As the trimester progressed, the end project for Romeo and Juliet was meant to be in casual tone, and I used a good amount of it making it feel more authentically 'game showy' using more modern phrases such as “Uh, I don’t want to marry anyo-”. which made the whole of the video and script to feel much more casual.

3. At the beginning of the trimester, my reading skills sometimes failed to pick up on references, foreshadowing, and character cues. this is most obvious in my odyssey study guide, which contained many small phrase answers missing some of the larger picture cues that were going on. What this did was make me miss some of the themes and ideas if the larger story as a whole. This is near the opposite for the romeo and Juliet study guide in which I missed a good amount of the small picture points and focused much more on the big picture. this made it easier to remember the main ideas and elements of the story but remember the actual plot less. All in all I kind of over-corrected but at least it improved.

4. My reading over the trimester was not great to start off which is just never good for anyone, as reading is good for the mind and soul, but near the middle and end, I began to study for the APUSH exam which made me start reading way more, and led to me reading more in general. Reading more not only helped me to study for tests but also just got me reading more in general after that helping me learn more about things I enjoy learning about.
5. I am mainly proud for my constant participation during class. my main regret is that sometimes I talked a bit too much.
